Earlier this year, Netflix set itself up as the savior of the superhero series with the first season of Daredevil (Gotta put that word to Scrabble ...) and for that they deserve our undying gratitude and respect. I myself had long given up the hope that after Arrow, Agents Of SHIELD and Agent Carter, just to review a few horrors, someday a decent superhero would thunder through my image, but then there was Matt Murdock. . The blind lawyer, who vigorously took matters into his own hands in the evenings in the narrow alleys of Hell's Kitchen. Daredevil was a more than welcome surprise in a world of too-tightly-polished-ideal-son-in-law-Colgate-smile heroes, when some further investigation revealed that this was only the first in a series of Marvel love babies where Netflix got the teeth the tears of joy filled my eyes. In addition to Matt Murdock, we will also have Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Daniel Rand (Iron Fist) and their collective The Defenders for our picks in the near future. How ridiculously fantastic is that ?! Miss Jones is online from today and a while ago I was allowed to watch the first seven episodes of Netflix, so that I can now tell you whether you can just hang on to those deadly boring Friday drinks with lukewarm bitterballen or whether you have to go home like crazy to put it on a binge that the dogs don't like to eat. Here it comes. After playing the superhero in a bathing suit and cape at night for a while, Jessica Jones is a bit done with it after a rather traumatic experience. Perhaps luckily in the event of an accident, because those ad hoc working hours don't exactly bother you and it also seems almost impossible to maintain your social life. Eating unlimited sushi with friends is only beneficial if you can actually stuff yourself with raw fish for two hours and not if you have to leave after five minutes to push the greasy resident through the stairwell to safety in a house fire. In order to pay the rent, Jessica continues as a private investigator and reluctantly chases after cheaters and fraudsters. When one day two concerned parents of a missing daughter knock on her door for help, Jessica's life takes a rather drastic turn. If you think all the time during the first episode of Jessica Jones, "I know her from somewhere, but I don't know about what," it could be right. In Breaking Bad, Krysten Ritter (Jessica Jones) was Jessie's unhinged girlfriend for a while. You know, the one with which he filled his veins with chemical residue after a nice evening watching TV together. So you could say that Ritter has mastered the role of unhinged missile by now, because where she fed herself on crystal meth in Breaking Bad, the daily breakfast in Jessica Jones is cornflakes with bourbon. Should there ever be a film adaptation of Courtney Love's life, I know who I would put forward as an interpreter. Jessica Jones is not exactly your typical super hero, but more of a somewhat damaged girl next door, who, despite the necessary setbacks, just tries to make the best of it. If Ted van de Parre and Magnús Ver Magnússon were to have a child, they would not have half the powers of Jones, but she only uses them sporadically. Some might even find it a bit too sparse. In any case, it ensures that Netflix, unlike the aforementioned superhero series, does not make a caricature of Jessica Jones and I personally like that very much. It also ensures that viewers who don't go so well on the traditional heroic positions like Superman, Spiderman, Batman and all those other guys with a bulge in their latex can watch them just fine. In that respect, the comparison with Daredevil is easily made. Both series are actually just dramas, thrillers, detectives with a main character who has just a little more skills than the average lawyer or private detective. A qualification that you could also give partly to the bad guys. While Fisk just had to roll up his sleeves in Daredevil, Kilgrave, played by a masterful David Tennant you might know from Dr Who and Broadchurch, has a slightly more extensive arsenal. He has the gift of mind control and can therefore let people listen to the collected work of Jeroen van der Boom for hours without actually feeling like it. The combination of an extremely distinguished Scot, who does the most terrible in a very vicious way, works very well. Normally you have a very clear picture of evil, but when it suddenly comes in a civilized package, it is as confusing as it is frightening. That feeling of disaster simmers very nicely through the first episodes and makes you want to keep watching. Like Daredevil, Jessica Jones is dark, but less raw. Violence is still violence and when there is shouting, there is also quite some meat in the picture, but in one way or another Jessica Jones feels lighter. Call it more feminine. Perhaps it is also due to the very subtle humor that is woven throughout the series. There seems to have been even more attention to the lighting and the neon on the street hits you in a delightful way. Accompanied by the jazzy tunes in the background, you sometimes have the feeling that somewhere in the back of a fifties jazz club you are sitting alone at a table of very sweet Cuba Libres, while someone on stage is plucking his double bass in a trance. Yummy. So drive quickly past the liquor store on the way from work, because you need a good base of rum in your glass when you are celebrating your own party indoors with Jessica Jones this weekend. Hi, after 4 episodes I quit. Doesn't have the same in it as Daredevil. I think Daredevil is much stronger.

I don't normally like superhero series, but this one appealed to me. At least isn't a person walking around in pajamas with a cape. Now seen the whole 1st season and I loved it. It is not a binge watcher for me, so I alternated a bit with other series in between, but certainly good series. Just don't like that Killgrave. Bit of an emo mama's boy who is hopelessly obsessed with Jessica and that must represent a super villain ...: P Anyway. good series continued.
