La legge di Lidia Poët - Season 1

La legge di Lidia Poët (The Law According to Lidia Poët) provides relaxation and entertainment.
The Italian answer to a crime costume drama makes for wonderful television. This is mainly due to the mischievous and excellent acting of lead actress Matilda De Angelis (The Undoing). She portrays a powerful Lidia Poet who achieves a lot through her appearance, but especially through her tenacity. Her main weapon is her facial expression. Stoic, bored, amazed and above all disarming. The fact that Lidia is not taken seriously in a male-dominated world because of her womanhood does not cause depression but militancy. However, it regularly feels like fighting against the finish line. At times like that, even Lidia's enthusiasm is dampened.

La legge di Lidia Poet is based on a historical character. She will eventually become Italy's first female lawyer. In the series, Lidia Poët has just graduated and wants to start her practice as a lawyer. That is against the sore shins of the powerful male stronghold. They make sure that Lidia cannot start her work. However, Lidia does not let herself be known and starts working under the wings of her brother Enrico (Pier Luigi Pasino). Enrico is traditional and conservative. However, he can't compete with Lidia's charms. It is vain hope to expect Lidia to take up her business on Enrico's leash. She is way too stubborn and self-willed for that. Lidia goes her own way and solves a number of cases.

The Law According to Lidia Poet is pre-eminently a series that ensures that you can escape the issues of everyday life.

In Enrico's house, Lidia meets the journalist Jacopo Barberis (Eduardo Scarpetto, L'Amica Geniale). Jacopo proves to be a support for Lidia in opening certain doors that would otherwise remain closed. Lidia soon begins to feel affection for him and Jacopo for her. Strong as Lidia is, however, she has several arrows to her bow. It produces an interesting triangle theme. That is made even more complicated by the free love that Jacopo seems to pursue. Enrico's wife and daughter ensure that Lidia is confronted with the humble image of women that most women had at the time. Where Enrico's wife clings to traditional values, her daughter, partly due to Lidia's input, is increasingly breaking free from this usual idea.

No expense has been spared when it comes to the dresses, costumes and sets. It all looks fantastic. The quality of the image ensures that everything is sharp and colorful. It ensures that La legge di Lidia Poet is truly a decent series. Everything is taken care of down to the last detail. The chosen music provides the right support. Modern when possible, classic when necessary. The crimes to be solved are somewhat simple in design. That's not what the story is about. It is mainly about Lidia's struggle against male narrow-mindedness. Her quest for justice. Despite the heavy themes, the makers manage to convey this with a wink. That humorous undertone is mainly due to the great acting of Matilda De Angelis.

It's a fantastic and romantic getaway from a difficult time.

La legge di Lidia Poet is pre-eminently a series that ensures that you can escape the issues of everyday life. It's a fantastic and romantic getaway from a difficult time. Especially for women. However, if it is presented with so much sharpness and quality, this season deserves nothing less than a nice eight as far as I'm concerned.
