Oscar-winner Larson has a big 2023 ahead of her as she can be seen in a few highly anticipated franchise films. First, Larson joins Vin Diesel and "the family" as Mr. Nobody's daughter Tess in the action movie Fast X. Then Larson joins an entirely different family when she returns to the MCU as Carol Danvers in The Marvels.
But Larson doesn't just have massive franchise movies in the works for 2023, as she's also starring in the Lessons In Chemistry series that just released its first teaser.
Lessons In Chemistry, an Apple TV+ series, is based on Bonnie Garmus' bestseller and has Lee Eisenberg (WeCrashed) as showrunner. In the series, Larson plays the role of Elizabeth Zott, a woman with a dream to become a scientist. In the end, she uses her chemistry skills in an unexpected way. The official synopsis for the series further explains:
"After Elizabeth is fired from her lab, she accepts a job as a host on a TV cooking show. But rather than showcase recipes, Elizabeth aims to show a nation of overlooked housewives – and the men tuning in – that the status quo can be changed as she craves to return to the lab."
The trailer immediately shows the historical setting of Lessons In Chemistry with its music and look, before diving straight into the story of Larson's Elizabeth. She works in a laboratory and, in the words of another character, is "one of the smartest people" there. That may be so, but Elizabeth is soon seen displaying her skills on television, where she dramatically announces, "Welcome viewers. My name is Elizabeth Zott, and this is Supper at Six."
Supper at Six must indeed be a huge success, as adoring female fans can be seen applauding. But perhaps more telling is the image of a little girl sitting on the living room floor watching Elizabeth teach her viewers how to cook (and presumably teach chemistry too, as the title promises). The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel immediately comes to mind thanks to the look of the trailer and thanks to the character of Elizabeth, who could indeed be the scientific world's answer to Midge Maisel.
Lessons In Chemistry will be available this fall on Apple TV+.
