Premiere date for Luther: The Fallen Sun

Netflix has announced the official premiere date of Luther: The Fallen Sun.

The film adaptation of the popular crime series Luther will be released on Netflix on Friday 10 March. You can also watch the film in the cinema for that. From February 24, Luther: The Fallen Sun can also be seen on the big screen.

In the film, London is plagued by a gruesome serial killer. Detective John Luther (Idris Elba) is in prison, but wants to do everything he can to catch the serial killer. So he decides to escape.

In addition to Idris Elba, Cynthia Erivo (Genius), Andy Serkis (Andor), Jess Liaudin (Irma Vep), Lauren Ajufo (Tell Me Everything), Natasha Patel (The Witcher: Blood Origin) and Henry Hereford (Crossbones) also star in the film. Dermot Crowley can be seen again as DSU Martin Schenk, the role he already played in eighteen episodes of Luther.

Jamie Payne (Outlander) directs from a script by series creator Neil Cross (The Mosquito Coast).

The film is a sequel to the popular BBC series that ran from 2010 to 2019. The series was made into five seasons. Although the creators announced that there would not be a sixth part, fans can now look forward to a sequel with the film.

Luther: The Fallen Sun is being billed as a continuation of the BBC series, which solidified Elba's status as a leading actor and earned him 11 Emmy nominations.

Netflix is ​​producing the film in collaboration with the BBC. Cross and Elba are producers along with Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping and David Ready for Chernin Entertainment. Dan Finlay produces for Chernin Entertainment, along with Brendan Ferguson, Miki Emmerich, Kris Thykier and Priscilla Parish.
