Idris Elba hinting about a Luther film

Idris Elba hinting about a Luther film

Actor Idris Elba previously already mentioned a possible Luther film. He has brought up the topic once more.
Idris Elba, who portrays the lead character in Luther, has once again spoken about a possible film adaptation of the series. Back in 2018, Elba said that there was going to be a movie. However, nothing concrete was ever revealed.

Elba has once again said something about a possible movie; “I’ve made it very clear that I’d like to see Luther come back as a film. And I can tell you this, that we are this close to making a film of Luther.” He also mentioned that he still considers it to be a good idea. Unfortunately, nothing concrete is known about the progress on the movie and when it is set to release.

The series premiered in 2010. The most recent season was released on the 1st of January in 2019. Luther revolves around John Luther (Idris Elba, Turn Up Charlie), a highly talented detective. As Luther hunts criminals, he is also struggling with his own demons.

Oh well, nowadays every series has to be concluded with a (cinema) film. Downton Abbey, Deadwood, Penoza, Breaking Bad, so why not Luther too?

Luther's seasons were already getting shorter. The last season only had four episodes I believe. So perhaps a film as a conclusion now is sufficient. Of the series that you mention, I have only seen the Deadwood film. And he really did close some things off from the rather abruptly stopped series. Same for Firefly. On the other hand, I had no desire for the Breaking Bad film. I thought the series ended well. I did not follow the other series and therefore did not watch the film.

I just saw the Breaking Bad movie. Not bad, but superfluous. The end of the series was good enough. I will still watch Penoza's, although the ending was fine too. I have (unfortunately) never seen Deadwood, so neither did the movie. That series did indeed end quite abruptly, so that eventually (after years) a closing film came out is nice for those who followed the series. In fact, Luther is very suitable for a movie. When that film comes, I will probably watch it (I have also seen the series), but I don't think it would be a big loss if it didn't come.
