The series is a modern take on the classic series about Thomas Magnum (Jay Hernandez), a decorated former Navy SEAL who, after returning home from Afghanistan, uses his military skills to become a private investigator. Magnum is a charming villain, American hero and avid Detroit Tigers fan. He lives in a guest house on Robin's Nest, the luxurious estate where he works as a security consultant in addition to his private detective work.
New episodes are broadcast on Peacock one day after broadcasting on NBC.

As revealed in June, Magnum, P.I. after season five, part two, after just one season on NBC. The series previously aired on CBS for four seasons before being canceled. June was a perilous time for the cast of the series whose options expired on June 30. Right now, networks are still reluctant to bring in new series amid the ongoing writers' strike, as it's unclear when scripted series could go into production.
The series, which did well on CBS before being canceled, continues to have strong appeal. The ratings for season five of Magnum, P.I. matched those of some of NBC's other scripted series, which were renewed with a new season.
