Marvel's Loki - Season 2
Will Marvel's Loki get a fantastic ending with a great season? I'm curious to see how the series will continue in the rest of the MCU.
It will not have escaped the notice of many of you that there is a kind of Marvel fatigue in the world. The films currently aren't performing as well as they used to. (but still generate a huge number of millions) and not all series are equally well received. The answer: quality over quantity. And a slightly slower pace when it comes to releasing series.
The second season of Marvel's Loki picks up where the first season left off. Marvel's Loki takes place within the TVA, the Time Variance Authority, the organization responsible for maintaining the 'Sacred Timeline'. After the events of the first season, all timelines are jumbled up. It's up to Loki to solve this.
I have to admit that the whole season feels a bit fragmented. It starts a bit slowly and goes from here to here. It isn't until the fifth episode, of six, that it feels like we've arrived at a useful point in the story. Episodes two through four feel like filler. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, because they are great characters to spend time with. But because the episodes were released weekly, I found it difficult to get into. I would have preferred to get it all at once and then binge-watch the entire season.
There are a few characters added in this second season. The most important character and most notable is Ouroboros, played by Ke Huy Quan (American Born Chinese). Truly a fantastic addition to this colorful cast, which includes Tom Hiddleston (The Essex Serpent) as Loki, Gugu Mbatha-Raw (The Girl Before), Wunmi Mosaku (We Own This City), Eugene Cordero (Central Park), Owen Wilson (Cars) and Sophia Di Martino (Peacock).
Overall, this second season is fine. But what really lifts it up are the last two episodes. The powers that are introduced and what that means for the MCU, plus what is done with Loki's character in the finale is truly fantastic. It's a beautiful full circle for a character we've been following on the big and small screen for over a decade. That alone makes up for all this excellent, and sometimes a bit boring, season.
Because of the above, this second season of Marvel's Loki gets a 7.5 from me!
