First-look photos for Apple TV+ series Monarch: Legacy of Monsters based on Monsterverse

The upcoming sci-fi drama series based on Legendary's Monsterverse on Apple TV+ now has an official title and the streamer is now sharing first-look photos.
Monarch: Legacy of Monsters is Legendary Television's new live-action series starring Godzilla and the Titans. The streamer also revealed some first photos from the ten-part series.

Monarch: Legacy of Monsters is co-developed by Chris Black (Severance) and Matt Fraction (Marvel's Hawkeye). The series features Kurt Russell (Marvel's What If...?), Wyatt Russell (Marvel's The Falcon and the Winter Soldier), Anna Sawai (Pachinko), Kiersey Clemons (Easy), Ren Watabe, Mari Yamamoto (Pachinko), Anders Holm (Inventing Anna), Joe Tippett (Mare of Easttown) and Elisa Lasowski (Versailles) in the leading roles.

Monarch: Legacy of Monsters

After the thunderous battle between Godzilla and the Titans that razed San Francisco to the ground and the shocking revelation that monsters are real, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters follows a brother and sister who follow in their father's footsteps to reconnect their family. with the mysterious organization Monarch. Clues lead them into the world of monsters and eventually down the rabbit hole to Army Officer Lee Shaw (played by Kurt Russell and Wyatt Russell).

The story takes place in the 1950s and half a century later, where Monarch is threatened by what Shaw knows. The dramatic saga - spanning three generations - reveals hidden secrets and the ways epic, earth-shattering events can reverberate through our lives.

Matt Shakman (Marvel's WandaVision) directs the first two episodes.

The series is produced by Black, Fraction and Shakman along with Joby Harold (Obi-Wan Kenobi, Spinning Out) and Tory Tunnell (Spinning Out, Underground) of Safehouse Pictures, Andy Goddard (Carnival Row, Downton Abbey), Brad Van Arragon ( Yellowjackets, Carnival Row) and Andrew Colville (Severance, Star Trek: Discovery). Hiro Matsuoka and Takemasa Arita produce on behalf of Toho Co., Ltd., the owner of Godzilla. Toho licensed the rights to Legendary for Monarch: Legacy of Monsters as a natural by-product of their long-standing relationship with the movie franchise.

Starting in 2014 with Godzilla and continuing with 2017's Kong: Skull Island, 2019's Godzilla: King of the Monsters, and 2021's Godzilla vs. Kong, the Monsterverse has grossed nearly $2 billion worldwide at the box office and continues to expand with the anticipated sequel Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, set to premiere in 2024.
