Murphy did not provide any additional details about the project, including writers. His announcement was unexpected, I hear, and it's unclear if all the deals for the new episode have been finalized yet.
Season 3 harkens back to the original Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story and centers on another deranged serial killer. Edward Gein, known as Butcher of Plainfield or the Plainfield Ghoul, confessed to murdering two women in the 1950s and is also said to have made trophies from bodies and skin of corpses he dug up from cemeteries. Gein's story inspired the Leatherface character in Tobe Hooper's 1974 horror classic The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

Monster was created by Murphy and Ian Brennan, with the original at number 3 on Netflix's Top 10 list of the most popular English-language programs. Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story debuts Thursday. It follows Tuesday's premiere of Murphy's American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez on FX and will be followed by the September 25 debut of Murphy's Grostequerie, also on FX, and the September 26 premiere of his new ABC series Doctor Odyssey.
