Mr Bates vs The Post Office - Season 1
Mr Bates vs The Post Office provides a compelling and disturbing picture of the struggle of ordinary people against an unwelcoming government and IT company.
In the Netherlands, we are aware of the incidents surrounding claims handling in Groningen and the benefits affair. There is a similar scandal in Great Britain. This concerns The Post Office, which is helping many branch owners get into enormous trouble due to the flawed computer program Horizon. The government service quickly manages to put the branch owners in enormous debts and indict them. Quite a few of them are even convicted. No one holds the computer program responsible. In fact, despite all signals, the software supplier and the government assume that the system is error-free.

It is a fierce battle in which the tenacious Alan Bates (Toby Jones, The Secret Agent) plays a central role. His stubborn attitude ensures that he brings other victims into the fight. In addition, after a long period of perseverance, he also manages to win over lawyers and politicians to his cause. Not that this provides a quick solution. For example, the press prefers to pay attention to the juicy stories and less to the story behind the victims. It means that most people in Great Britain continue to see the affected branch owners as criminals. The consequences are disastrous. A number of branch owners commit suicide. Others are plunged into a deep emotional chasm.
This miniseries perfectly shows how people can be crushed between the wheels of power. A government that should be there for people is more likely to opt for power and the associated lobbies of influential companies. An unequal battle that, unfortunately after a lot of suffering and time, can still be won by the underdog. With this outcome, this sad story still has a hopeful ending.![Video on youtube](https://i.ytimg.com/vi/zPkvYXufpAY/maxresdefault.jpg)

The painful thing about Mr Bates vs The Post Office is that people quickly get into trouble, but it takes more than twenty years of struggle before the victims are recognized. This miniseries has largely contributed to that. Only after the broadcast of this series did mass outrage start. Before that, it was the unequal struggle of a group of ordinary people against two powerful institutions.Only after the broadcast of this series did mass outrage start.

Mr Bates vs The Post Office provides an honest and intimate picture of those affected by this. A star cast has been assembled to portray this as perfectly as possible. It delivers quality. Furthermore, the makers have decided to literally copy all texts that the people behind Horizon and The Post Office said in public. The miniseries therefore gives an excellent picture of this battle of David against Goliath. This miniseries perfectly shows how people can be crushed between the wheels of power.
