Sportsman Travis Kelce Cast in Ryan Murphy's Grotesquerie

Travis Kelce's foray into Hollywood continues with his first major acting job: a role in Ryan Murphy's buzzy new FX horror series Grotesquerie.
According to sources, the NFL star - and global celebrity for his relationship with Taylor Swift - has been cast opposite Niecy Nash-Betts, Courtney B. Vance and Lesley Manville in the new series, which just entered production. Representatives for FX, Murphy and 20th Television declined to comment.

As is the case with all of Murphy's projects, details about Grotesquerie are scarce. Besides Nash-Betts, Vance and Manville, no other cast members have been confirmed for the drama, which is set to premiere in the fall.

The series' debut is expected to coincide with next football season, which will see Kelce (pictured) return to the Kansas City Chiefs after his third Super Bowl victory in five years.

Grotesquerie follows Kelce's acting debut as host of Saturday Night Live in March 2023. He also made a cameo alongside Swift on NBC's late-night sketch comedy series last fall.

Now that his name has become known worldwide through his high-profile relationship with Swift, Kelce is in demand. He has been outspoken about his lofty Hollywood ambitions and has branched out since signing with CAA last year.

He previously delved into the world of television with his reality dating series Catching Kelce, which ran for one season in 2016, and recently signed on to host Amazon's game show Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity?

Known for his podcast New Heights, which he co-hosts with his brother and former NFL center Jason Kelce, Travis Kelce also recently made his debut as executive producer on the indie film My Dead Friend Zoe, which premiered at SXSW. He is set to produce a documentary about artist Jean-Michel Basquiat, titled King Pleasure.

Following the leak of his appearance in Grotesquerie, Kelce posted a video on his IG stories from the set.

“Guys, guess who I am working with on Grotesquerie,” Nash-Betts says to the camera before Kelce joins her and says, “Coming into a new territory. With Niecy!.”

Nash posted several clips of her and Kelce from the set, including one of them in a car, and one after they wrapped night filming, where Murphy gives Kelce a hug and says, "You were amazing."

Nash asked Kelce how he felt, to which he replied, "I'm just glad I didn't hurt anyone."

Murphy is known for helping talent transition into acting. A few years ago he gave Lady Gaga her first major role in American Horror Story: Hotel. She then starred in A Star Is Born, for which she received an Oscar nomination. Like Kelce, Gaga was also a hostess on SNL before she got a chance with Murphy.

Grotesquerie, which Murphy makes with regular collaborators Jon Robin Baitz and Joe Baken, released a text-only teaser in February. It included audio of Nash-Bett's character, in which she says, "I don't know when it started, I can't put my finger on it, but it's different now. There's a shift, like something's opening up in the world - a kind of hole that descends into nothingness."

You can watch the teaser below.
