Paul Giamatti cast in Eli Roth's television series Hostel

Paul Giamatti will star in a television series based on Eli Roth's horror franchise Hostel.
The series comes from Roth, Chris Briggs and Mike Fleiss, who all worked on the films, and Fifth Season. Hostel is currently in development and does not yet have a network or channel attached, but it is described as a "elevated thriller with Roth's trademark skills" and a modern reinvention of the horror franchise.

No details have been announced yet, but Giamatti will play a leading role. Roth directs and co-writes with Briggs, with Roth, Briggs and Fleiss directing.

The original film series, first released in 2006, followed three backpackers as they headed to a Slovakian town that promised to meet their hedonistic expectations, with no idea of the hell that awaited them. The first two films were written and directed by Eli Roth and produced by Roth, Fleiss and Briggs.

Giamatti is fresh off his Golden Globe-winning and Oscar-nominated role in The Holdovers. Giamatti also starred in the second season of HBO Europe's hit Spanish horror series 30 Monedas/30 Coins and in Showtime's Billions.

Most recently, Roth directed, produced and wrote the horror film Thanksgiving, based on Roth's fictional trailer for Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez's Grindhouse. Roth will soon release the film adaptation of the popular video game Borderlands, starring Cate Blanchett, Kevin Hart, Jack Black and Jamie Lee Curtis. The film will be released this summer by Lionsgate.
