Jeffrey Wright will star opposite Michael Fassbender in The Agency

Jeffrey Wright has been tapped to star opposite Michael Fassbender in The Agency.
The Agency (formerly known as The Department), is George Clooney's remake of the French political drama series Le Bureau des Légendes.

The political thriller follows Martian (Fassbender), a secret CIA agent who is ordered to give up his undercover life and return to the station in London. When the love he left behind resurfaces, romance reignites. His career, his real identity and his mission collide with his heart, drawing them both into a deadly game of international intrigue and espionage.

“Jeffrey Wright (pictured) doesn’t just portray characters – he inhabits them completely, infusing each role with raw, emotional power and profound, psychological insight,” said Chris McCarthy, Paramount Global Co-CEO and President/CEO, Showtime & MTV Entertainment Studios. “We are thrilled to have him join Michael Fassbender and our creative dream team of Joe Wright, Jez and John-Henry Butterworth, Grant Heslov and George Clooney.”

Le Bureau des Légendes revolves around the daily lives and missions of agents within France's most important external security service. It focuses on the 'Office of Legends', which is responsible for training and fielding undercover agents on long-term missions in areas of French interest. These agents have been living under false identities for years and their mission is to identify and recruit good intelligence sources.

Created by Eric Rochant, Le Bureau des Légendes is a Canal+ Creation Original series produced by TOP - The Originals Productions and Federation Studios.

Currently in production in London, The Agency is produced on behalf of Showtime Studios and in association with 101 Studios. Clooney and Grant Heslov will executive produce through Smokehouse Pictures.

Keith Cox and Nina L. Diaz produce for Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios with David C. Glasser, Ron Burkle, David Hutkin and Bob Yari for 101 Studios, Alex Berger for The Originals Productions; and Ashley Stern and Pascal Breton for Federation Studios/Federation Entertainment of America.

Jez and John-Henry Butterworth are writers and executive producers; Joe Wright serves as executive producer and director for the first two episodes.

Wright was recently seen as Thelonius “Monk” Ellison, the lead actor in Orion Pictures/Amazon MGM Studios' American Fiction, for which he received Oscar, Golden Globe, Critics Choice, Gotham, SAG and NAACP Image Awards nominations and won the Independent Spirit Award for his performance.

Wright will appear in season two of HBO's The Last of Us, reprising his role as Isaac from the video game. On the television front, he has also appeared in HBO's Westworld and HBO's Boardwalk Empire and is the voice of The Watcher in Marvel's What If...? from Disney+.
