John Carroll Lynch cast in Bosch spinoff about Renée Ballard

John Carroll Lynch has been cast as a regular opposite Maggie Q in Prime Video’s untitled Renée Ballard series, a spinoff of Bosch.
The new series follows Detective Renée Ballard (Q), who is tasked with leading the LAPD’s new Cold Case Unit—a poorly funded, volunteer unit with the largest caseload in the city. Ballard approaches these cases with empathy and determination. When her investigations uncover a larger conspiracy, she must rely on retired ally Harry Bosch to help her navigate the dangers that threaten both her unit and her life.

Lynch (pictured) plays Thomas Laffont, a retired former police partner who returns to help Ballard lead the department. A friendly, seasoned detective and a master interrogator, he’s a great support for Ballard.

Besides Q, Lynch also joins Courtney Taylor who plays Samira Parker, a member of Ballard's team.

Q’s character is first introduced in the season finale of another Bosch spinoff, Bosch: Legacy, before she goes on to her own series.

Jet Wilkinson serves as executive producer on the Renée Ballard series alongside Michael Connelly, Trish Hofmann, Michael Alaimo and Kendall Sherwood. Henrik Bastin and Melissa Aouate are producing for Fabel Entertainment, with Jasmine Russ serving as co-executive producer. Other co-executive producers include Jamie Boscardin Martin and Trey Batchelor. Theresa Snider is co-executive producer for Hieronymus Pictures.

Lynch recently starred in HBO’s The White House Plumbers and will appear in the final season of Paramount+’s Evil. Other television roles include recurring roles on Starz's Gaslit, FX's American Horror Story, and The Americans, as well as being a series regular on ABC's Big Sky.
