Zach Galifianakis completes the main cast of AMC's Silicon Valley drama series, starring Billy Magnussen. The series has been retitled The Audacity, and was one of the highlights of AMC’s Upfront event last week. Set in the bubble of Silicon Valley, the series follows a group of billionaires, fighters, dreamers and more as they chase unicorn status, keep marriages afloat, micro-dose in search of futuristic solutions to modern-day problems, and channel the audacity it takes to build the world they’re creating before our eyes. All while navigating real-life challenges brought on by AI, big data, and the accelerating pace of technological revolution.
Galifianakis (pictured) will play key recurring character Carl Bardolph. Carl Bardolph is unimaginably wealthy and irreparably disillusioned. He has spent years watching the tech world move forward from the shadows, unimpressed by those who came after him and uninterested in returning. But when Duncan (Magnussen) comes to him and pulls him back into the world, Carl returns not as a mentor or a savior, but as a problem.
In addition to Magnussen, Galifianakis joins series regulars Sarah Goldberg, Lucy Punch, Simon Helberg, Rob Corddry, Meaghan Rath, Paul Adelstein and Everett Blunck.
Jonathan Glatzer serves as writer, executive producer and showrunner. Gina Mingacci also serves as executive producer. The eight-episode first season premieres next year.
Galifianakis just finished a season-long recurring role on season four of Hulu's Only Murders in the Building, which won him the SAG Award for Best Comedy Ensemble. He previously starred in the FX comedy-drama Baskets. His upcoming films include Lilo & Stitch for Disney and the thriller The Gallerist starring Natalie Portman and Jenny Ortega.
