The series is based on the best-selling novel of the same name by Elin Hilderbrand, author of The Perfect Couple, and is developed by Bekah Brunstetter, known for series such as This Is Us and Maid. The project is part of a collaboration between Universal Studio Group and Dinner Party Productions, the production company of Sue Naegle and Ali Krug, who also serve as executive producers. The series was greenlit after Garner signed on as lead actress and executive producer.

The Five-Star Weekend follows Hollis Shaw (Jennifer Garner), a renowned food influencer who has become famous for her refined recipes, sense of style, and warm demeanor. After the death of her husband, her carefully constructed world slowly collapses. The tragedy forces her to confront the hidden cracks in her life: her troubled marriage, her strained relationship with her daughter, and her growing reliance on online validation.

In search of healing and meaning, Hollis decides to host a special weekend at her Nantucket home. She invites four women—friends from different stages of her life: her youth, twenties, thirties, and a surprise fifth guest. During this luxurious and emotionally charged weekend, secrets are revealed, boundaries are pushed, and relationships are tested.

Hall previously starred as Carmel Schneider in the Hulu drama series Nine Perfect Strangers and the Showtime historical comedy series Black Monday. She also played Candace “Candy” Sparks in both the film series The Best Man and the Peacock television series The Best Man: The Final Chapters.

With the addition of Regina Hall, the cast of this promising drama series gets a major boost. The Five-Star Weekend promises to be a compelling story of grief, friendship, female resilience, and self-discovery—all set against the backdrop of an idyllic and stylish coastal landscape.
