American Love Story stars Grace Gummer, Sydney Lemmon and Alessandro Nivola

Ryan Murphy's new series American Love Story has expanded its cast with the addition of Grace Gummer, Sydney Lemmon and Alessandro Nivola. The upcoming FX series American Love Story, created by Ryan Murphy and part of his popular American Story franchise, is expanding its cast. The new anthology series will tell a true love story that has captured the attention of the world in each season. The first season will focus on the iconic and ultimately tragic love story of John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette.



Three new names have recently been added to the cast. Actress Grace Gummer (pictured), known for USA Network series Mr. Robot, will play Caroline Kennedy, JFK Jr.'s sister, in a permanent role. Sydney Lemmon (Fear The Walking Dead) will take on the role of Lauren Bessette, Carolyn's sister. In addition, Alessandro Nivola, who was seen in Apple TV+'s The Big Cigar last year, will play fashion designer Calvin Klein.

These three actors join the previously announced cast, which includes Sarah Pidgeon as Carolyn Bessette, Paul Kelly as John F. Kennedy Jr., and Naomi Watts in the role of Jackie Kennedy Onassis, JFK Jr.'s mother.

The first season explores the lives of John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette from the moment they were seen as America's dream couple. What began as a fairytale romance – she as Calvin Klein's stylish PR woman, he as the heir to the Kennedy empire – turned into a complex relationship under immense pressure.

The constant media attention, high public expectations, and family tensions began to take their toll. The series chronicles the couple’s struggles with the demands of public life, and how their relationship ultimately ended tragically when their private plane crashed into the sea off the coast of Massachusetts in July 1999, with Carolyn’s sister Lauren also on board.

American Love Story, like Murphy’s previous work, is a scripted drama series that tells true stories with a great sense of drama and visual style. Following the success of American Crime Story, which focused on high-profile crime cases, Murphy now focuses on love stories that have captured public fascination and left a cultural mark. Each season of American Love Story will explore a different famous love story.
