Loretta Devine, known for her recurring role on Grey's Anatomy, and Paul Ben-Victor (The Wire) have been cast in the upcoming crime thriller series M.I.A. for Peacock. Peacock is expanding its lineup with M.I.A., a new South Florida-based crime series from Bill Dubuque, co-creator of the award-winning Ozark. The series promises a gritty and intense look at the underworld of Miami and beyond, with a story centered on family, drugs, survival and betrayal.

The series follows Etta Tiger Jonze (played by newcomer Shannon Gisela), a young woman who becomes entangled in the family business of drug trafficking. When the criminal enterprise is threatened, Etta must adapt to a dangerous and violent world she never imagined would shape her future. Smarts, survival instincts, and loyalty become her weapons as she navigates Miami’s ruthless criminal underworld.
The title M.I.A. not only refers to Miami's airport, but also symbolizes absences, vanishing points, and the lives of people on the margins in hiding. Set in the heart of South Florida — a region that includes Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach, and Monroe Counties — the series shows a side of the Sunshine State that rarely appears in travel guides.

Newly announced as recurring guest stars alongside Devine and Ben-Victor are Tovah Feldshuh (Nobody Wants This) and Tyler Perez (Code Black). They join a cast that already includes Shannon Gisela, Brittany Adebumola, Dylan Jackson, Maurice Compte, Danay Garcia, Cary Elwes, Gerardo Celasco and Marta Milans as regulars. Edward James Olmos, Billy Burke and Sonia Braga also guest star.
M.I.A. promises to be a gripping, violent and emotionally charged ride through the shadowy world of South Florida. With a strong ensemble, a proven creative team, and thematic affinities to hits like Ozark and Dexter, the series has the potential to be a new audience favorite on Peacock. An official premiere date has not yet been announced, but with the cast now complete, production appears to be in full swing.
