Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Richard Madden to star in Netflix drama Trinity

Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Marvel's Loki) and Richard Madden (Citadel) have been cast as the leads in the new Netflix drama series Trinity.
The eight-part series Trinity revolves around a heroic female naval officer who becomes involved with the seemingly charismatic Minister of Defense, but soon discovers that he may be central to a dangerous plot.

Mbatha-Raw (pictured) plays Commander Katherine Decker, the second-highest-ranking officer aboard the USS Kansas, a nuclear submarine and one of the deadliest weapons in the world. Madden plays Secretary of Defense Webb Preston, a politician with a background in technology that sets him apart from others in his position. His innovative vision and determination are seen by some as a threat—in more ways than one.

The series is led by Jed Mercurio (Bodyguard), who serves as showrunner, screenwriter and executive producer.

Mbatha-Raw can currently be seen starring in and co-executive producing Surface, a psychological thriller from Apple TV+ that is currently in its second season. Her previous television roles include Marvel’s Loki (Disney+), the miniseries The Girl Before (HBO Max), The Morning Show (Apple TV+) and an episode of Black Mirror (Netflix). She will next appear on the big screen in the British crime thriller Fuze, starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Theo James and Sam Worthington, as well as The Woman in Cabin 10, a book adaptation in which she stars opposite Keira Knightley.

Madden (pictured) is best known for his role as Robb Stark in the first three seasons of HBO’s hit series Game of Thrones. He previously worked with Mercurio in the series Bodyguard, in which he played the role of David Budd. He recently starred in the Prime Video action series Citadel, and on the big screen he can be seen as Ikaris in Marvel’s Eternals, directed by Chloé Zhao.
