Jennifer Aniston has announced a new series at Apple TV+, following The Morning Show.Jennifer Aniston will not only star in the new series, but will also serve as an executive producer. The book I’m Glad My Mom Died, which was published in 2022 and became an instant bestseller, is a raw and honest account of McCurdy’s complex and toxic relationship with her mother. It describes the emotional and psychological impact this relationship had on her, and how she found a path to recovery after her mother’s death in 2013. McCurdy has previously said she was deeply touched by how many people identified with her story, especially the complicated dynamic with her mother and the combination of humor, eating disorders, and grief.
For the adaptation of the book into a series, McCurdy is working with Ari Katcher, known for Ramy, among other things. Together they will act as co-showrunners and also be executive producers. Jennifer Aniston will take on the role of the mother — a narcissistic woman who completely identifies with her daughter's success.
The series is described as a dramedy (a combination of drama and comedy) and centers on the relationship between an 18-year-old actress on a successful children’s show and her domineering, controlling mother, who lives in the shadow of stardom but also holds the reins tightly.
In addition to this new project, Aniston can also be seen in the fourth season of The Morning Show, also on Apple TV+. The new season kicks off on Wednesday, September 17 and picks up two years after the events of season three.
The series I’m Glad My Mom Died is produced by Apple Studios and promises to be an intimate, confrontational, yet humorous look at one of the most talked about mother-daughter relationships of recent years.
