Spotlight On: Grant Gustin

Spotlight On: Grant Gustin

Lights off, spotlight on! Time to see which series Grant Gustin also has on his resume.
How do you summarize Grant Gustin? In short, you end up with a super fast DC superhero who started his career as a singing misfit in a high school. With a few roles in between, you have then most charmingly and - entirely in style - pretty quickly gone through his resume.

Before Gustin was leisurely walking the traffic cameras mad in The Flash (2014), even before his Glee career kickstarted, Gustin starred in one episode on the television series A Haunting. He was Thomas, Stacy's boyfriend, in this paranormal series where victims of supernatural phenomena talk about the things they've been through.

Next comes Glee. Gustin does not play a leading role in the musical dramedy. His supporting role as Sebastian Smythe can be seen in a number of episodes. Glee revolves around a group of young people who, led by their teacher, start a choir at school. Unbelievably popular, one pop song after another was played before the series ended for six seasons.

A guest appearance on CSI: Miami is a brief foray into the action genre before Gustin takes on a recurring supporting role in 90210. Here, too, a group of young adults is central. For Gustin, it seems like the start of much more. Although its significance to 90210 is marginal, the series comes from The CW stable. The youth network that will prove to be of enormous career importance to Gustin.

The starting shot for this is given in Arrow. In the second season, the masked archer who wants to protect his city against evil at all costs runs into the cheerful Barry Allen - forensic investigator and very handy -. That's convenient when The Green Arrow's life is hanging by a thread.

Barry Allen is already very popular in that short introduction. Enough to get its own pilot as The Flash not much later. The undeniable beginning of the so-called Arrowverse. Many series follow. What about Vixen, Supergirl, DC's Legends of Tomorrow and Batwoman. Due to all kinds of crossovers in the seasons, the main characters from these series see each other regularly. Guest roles in the other's series are the rule rather than the exception.

The Arrowverse may not be the strongest movie or series universe. Still, many find it more than entertaining. The-mind-zero-and-watch-universe. That normal people - and even superheroes - can take a lot in the series, experience an amount of drama that is almost unreal has to be taken with a grain of salt.

Gustin's series The Flash (2014) is one of the stronger ones from the colorful superhero collection. This is not least due to his interpretation of the title role. Gustin plays Barry Allen and The Flash mostly with verve, charismatic and with a spark of humor. That not every script is equally strong... who do you hear about that anymore.

As one of the few surviving offspring from The CW's slowly declining Arrowverse - partly due to the channel takeover by Nexstar Media Group - The Flash (2014) rushes through your screen for its final season. One more all-decisive duel has to be fought and then the brakes will finally be applied to The Flash (2014).

Where Gustin will be seen afterwards is not yet clear. Whether his stay with The CW series has come to an end with Nexstar Media Group is also not known. We're going to experience it. Until then, fasten your seat belts, this is going to be a lightning-fast ride to the ninth and final season finale.
