Series of the Year 2023 - Best New Series

This column supports the Series of the Year election 2023 and focuses on the best new series of this year. You can vote for your favorite series in this genre and others, between Monday, January 2, and Sunday 4 February.
It was once again an eventful year in the land of series. It was also a very different year than we have been used to lately, as there was a major Hollywood strike, which meant there was little promo for all productions. The effects were not immediately noticeable with the new series, because they had already largely been recorded. But we will certainly notice this next year, and we will also notice it in the form of multiple beloved series that unfortunately ended up canceled due to the strike. But that's talking about the future. For now the list of the best series of 2023, compiled by the MySeries users and our writers.

Below, in alphabetical order, the top ten nominees of the best series from 2023;

Ahsoka

Ahsoka
Disney is not just making waves with Marvel series. The media giant is also expanding the Star Wars universe little by little, series by series. After the character Ahsoka already appeared in The Mandalorian, she now also has her own series. I haven't watched the series myself, but if I have to believe all the users here, it's worth it.
Here you can read the reviews that were written about Ahsoka.

The Continental

The Continental
It is of course a very contemporary phenomenon to expand existing franchises with even more content. And not only large universes such as Star Wars and Marvel have to believe in this. A film series like John Wick now also has a spin-off series, namely The Continental. Yet we all seem to appreciate this; After all, the series is in our top ten best new series.

The Diplomat

The Diplomat (US)
The world of diplomats in The Diplomat (US) is interesting to me. Tension, intrigue, political games. You have to be made for it. In any case, we can now watch from our couch how things are going in the US. This way you can feed your interest in complete safety.

The Fall of the House of Usher

The Fall of the House of Usher
Mike Flanagan. We don't really need to say more. Although the Flanagan series have fluctuated in quality over the years, they have always been interesting and intriguing. With The Fall of the House of Usher we really have another gem in our hands. Perhaps as good as The Haunting of Hill House?

Gen V

Gen V
If there is one superhero series that has risen above all in recent years, it is The Boys. Gen V's announcement aroused some skepticism among some. Not necessary at all! Because what a fantasy addition to the universe. I wouldn't even call it a spin-off, because it complements each other perfectly. Moreover, the story continues. As the creators said, basically the first season of Gen V is season 3.5 of The Boys.

Hijack

Hijack
Already the third miniseries in this list, and the second crime miniseries. These have become very popular in recent years. The special thing about Hijack is that the story is told in 'real-time'. The seven 45-minute episodes also tell a story that takes place over just over five hours.
Unfortunately, no reviews were written about Hijack as of yet

The Last of Us

The Last of Us
If there was one series that was talked about a lot at the beginning of this year, it was The Last of Us. Long expected and highly praised, this is a very good contender for prizes this year, and not just from us. Will the zombie plague triumph?

The Night Agent

The Night Agent
The Netflix thriller The Night Agent appears to be the most-watched series of the first six months of the streaming giant. What strikes me is that it is once again a thriller that appears on this list. Are we seeing a pattern yet? I'm curious whether the streaming figures will translate into an award.

Rabbit Hole

Rabbit Hole
Something about thriller, crime and miniseries. I certainly didn't come up with it myself! I suspect it will be difficult for the enthusiast to choose. In the Netherlands, Rabbit Hole can be seen on SkyShowtime. A subscription to that platform may be worth it after all.

Silo

Silo
Silo is a science fiction series from Apple TV+ starring Rebecca Ferguson. I haven't been able to watch it yet, but the combination of the cast, the subject of the series, the quality that Apple normally delivers and all the rave reviews convince me that this series is at least entertaining to watch.
