Spotlight On: Matt Smith

Spotlight On: Matt Smith

Lights off, spotlight on! Time to see which series Matt Smith also has on his resume.
British actor Matt Smith has long been best known for his role in the series Doctor Who. Not too long ago, however, he also became deeply committed to another franchise. In the world of Game of Thrones, he landed a role in the prequel House of the Dragon, which will soon enter its second season.

However, it is not easy to just end up there. This requires skills that Smith has acquired in his projects around Doctor Who. His first roles were in some short videos in the Doctor Who universe, while in 2006 he received credits for his small part in Masterpiece Theater. The British anthology series revolves around British cinema and has now run for more than 41 seasons.

We also find Smith in the 2007 political drama Party Animals. The eight-part story is told with Smith as one of the main characters who come into contact with each other through their political work in the Parliament of the United Kingdom.

A guest appearance on Secret Diary of a Call Girl follows, as does a brief recurring role on The Street. The first more supernatural series in which we see Smith is Moses Jones. The miniseries tells the story of the search for the killer of a corpse found in the Thames. The strange thing is that the deceased seems to have died as a result of witchcraft.

From 2010 onwards it was time for Smith to really make a breakthrough. Whether it was Jodie Wittaker, Peter Capaldi, David Tennant or Smith, Doctor Who has been a huge success since its revival. Smith contributed greatly to this in his role as a time-traveling doctor for several seasons. Smith enjoyed traveling through time and space so much that he appears in no fewer than 46 episodes as the title hero, and has also made numerous side projects around the series. For example, there is a podcast in which he is sometimes involved, he provides the voice in the video game and many short videos have been released in which Smith records his role as the eleventh Doctor.

This is also reflected in special cases such as The Sarah Jane Adventures, Meanwhile, in the TARDIS, Doctor Who: Space and Time, Night and the Doctor and Pond Life. In short, it can easily be said that Smith's life in those years consisted of projects in which he played the title role of Doctor Who. With verve!

This came to an end in 2014. Smith chose to broaden his horizons, although he indicated in a later interview that he had some regrets about this and would have liked to work with Jenna Coleman longer. However, a movie is in the offing for Smith. He signed for Terminator: Genisys and later also appeared in Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.

After those films, Smith delves into the world of the British royal family. In The Crown he portrays Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. To then combine the successful genre of science fiction - okay translated into fantasy - and the princely life of the British Royal Family: Smith's next project is House of the Dragon. In the first season he plays a very nice villain in the form of Prince Daemon Targaryen. He will play that role again in the second season, which will be released on HBO MAX in mid-July. Put those dragon eggs on the fire, the trailers will warm up our dragon hearts. Are you going to watch?
