NBC orders five additional episodes of St. Denis Medical

NBC has picked up five additional episodes of St. Denis Medical, bringing the first season order to eighteen episodes.
The news comes as the mockumentary, from Superstore duo Jason Spitzer and Eric Ledgin, wraps up production on its original thirteen episodes, so the backorder will keep the series in continuous production. It follows a pickup of five additional scripts a few weeks ago.

The episode order also comes a month after NBC unveiled its fall 2024 schedule, with St. Denis Medical as Tuesday anchor, opening the evening at 8 p.m. where Superstore aired for most of its production run.

NBCUniversal executives have been positive about the project since the pilot, which stars Allison Tolman, Wendi McClendon-Covey and David Alan Grier. It was a highlight at a meeting last Wednesday with top executives from Mark Lazarus' NBCUniversal Media Group, where a subsequent episode was shown to a strong reception.

Originally set to series last year for the 2023-24 season but delayed by the strikes, St. Denis Medical is set in an underfunded, understaffed hospital in Oregon where the dedicated doctors and nurses do their best to care for patients. treatment and at the same time preserve their own sanity.

The cast also includes Josh Lawson, Mekki Leeper, Kahyun Kim and Kaliko Kauahi. Spitzer and Ledgin write and produce. Simon Heuer is also producing with director Ruben Fleischer (pilot only). Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, produces in association with Spitzer Holding Company.

St. Denis Medical is one of two new comedy series on NBC's fall schedule. The other, sitcom Happy's Place starring Reba McEntire, is on a different production schedule as it only went to series last month.
