(HBO) Max series Duster by J.J. Abrams ends production due to writers' strike

Drama series Duster, where J.J. Abrams is the executive producer of has shut down production.
Production on the (HBO) Max period drama Duster from LaToya Morgan and Abrams was shut down this past Monday morning in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The IATSE (International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees) union and truck drivers refused to cross the picket posts in support of the WGA members, who have now been on strike for 21 days. Earlier the same day, FX drama series The Old Man starring Jeff Bridges also suspended filming of season two.

Abrams (pictured) was present at the Fox Studios strike in Los Angeles on May 5. It is the latest (HBO) Max series to be shut down, after The Penguin, starring Colin Farrell, was disrupted last week.

Duster follows Nina (Rachel Hilson, This Is Us), the first black female FBI agent, who heads to the Southwest in 1972 and recruits a brave getaway driver (Josh Holloway, Lost). He is the FBI agent's first recruit in a daring attempt to take down a growing crime syndicate.

The series also stars Keith David (Greenleaf) as Ezra, Donal Logue (Gotham) as Sergeant Groomes, Camille Guaty (The Rookie) as Izzy, Sofia Vassilieva (Looking For Alaska) as Jessica, Dan Tracy (Class of '09) as Chad Grant, Gail O'Grady (Criminal Minds) as Charlotte Dean-Ellis and Greg Grunberg (Heroes) as Abbott.

Duster is produced by Warner Bros. Television. The first two episodes were written by Abrams and Morgan. Steph Green (The Americans) directs and produces the first two episodes. Abrams and Rachel Rusch Rich produce for Bad Robot through the partnership with Warner Bros. Discovery and WBTV, and Morgan produces for TinkerToy Productions through its blanket agreement with WBTV.
