Corona crisis; which series to watch? Top 5 best cartoons from the 80s

Many great, fun and interesting top-five lists have been released to fill the time we would usually fill with going out and visiting relatives. Down below, you'll find a list that consists of many fun cartoons from the 80s. Enjoy watching!
Now that we're probably going crazy due to continually sitting inside, our minds could wander back to the good old days. Everything used to be better, right? If we're just talking about animated series for children, then yes. Definitely. If I see what kind of garbage my nieces and nephews watch, I long back to the cartoons - not animation - from my younger days. That's why I've decided to make a top-five list that consists of my favourite cartoons from that time.

5. The Smurfs

Who doesn't know the Smurfs? The little blue creatures were a hit long before Avatar. Always on their guard for Gargamel and his cat Azrael. The series aired from 1981 till 1989. It was succeeded by many follow-ups, including two films from 2011 and 2013, and another animated movie from 2017.

4. M.A.S.K.

This series can be best described as a blend between Transformers and G.I. Joe. In 1985 and 1986, this series had 75 episodes divided over two seasons. Matt Trakker fights with his team, which is equipped with special masks that grant them special powers, against the crime organisation V.E.N.O.M. In 2018, there were rumours about a possible big-screen adaptation.

3. The Wonderful Adventures of Nils

In the Netherlands, this series was called Nils Holgersson. The series revolves around a boy who was shrunken down to the size of a gnome as a punishment. After that, he had many adventures with a goose and a hamster. This series started in 1962, and even after the eighties ended, this beloved story was still adapted in various ways.

2. Transformers

The cartoon that revolved around the Autobots and the Decepticons had four seasons in total, which aired from 1984 till 1987. A big-screen adaptation of this lucrative franchise was already in 1986. In 2007, Michael Bay created Transformers (2007), which launched a movie franchise that still brings in large numbers at the box office.

1. He-Man and the Masters of the Universe

This was by far one of my most favourite series. Many of my birthday and Sinterklaas (Dutch version of Santa Clause) lists were filled with toys from the show. It revolved around Prince Adam, who was able to use the Sword of Power to turn into He-Man and fight against Skeletor. A movie was released in 1987, which featured Dolph Lundgren as Prince Adam/ He-Man. Unfortunately, this was a big letdown. Rumours regarding a new big-screen adaptation have been going around for years. Netflix created a spin-off, which is called She-Ra and the Princess of Power (2018).

These were my favourites, but I watched a lot more cartoons. Shows such as G.I. Joe and Lucky Luke were incredibly fun. If you don't like these, don't worry. There will soon be more top-five lists to help you fill your time.
