Max Originals The Penguin and Dune: Prophecy are heading to HBO

After Harry Potter and Welcome to Derry, the exclusive Max Originals The Penguin and Dune: Prophecy are now also going to HBO.
Last month, Warner Bros. moved Discovery brought three of its highest-profile Max Originals – Harry Potter, Lanterns and IT prequel series Welcome to Derry – to HBO Originals. The company is now continuing this shift with the relocation of The Penguin and Dune: Prophecy.

Both series are now premiering on HBO and will also launch on the HBO Max streaming service.

It's part of a strategy to transform its best-known titles into HBO Originals, allowing them to be broadcast linearly on the premium cable network as well as streamed. When the move was revealed in June, the company said it was unsure whether The Penguin, which premieres in September, and Dune: Prophecy would fall under the new brand, but this has now been clarified.

WBD said last month that HBO Max original series Harry Potter and Welcome to Derry are moving to HBO. The Green Lanterns series Lanterns is also part of this strategic move after receiving a series order from HBO.

The Penguin stars Colin Farrell. Developed by Lauren LeFranc, Farrell will reprise his role as the gangster from Matt Reeves' The Batman in Gotham City. Cristin Milioti, Rhenzy Feliz, Theo Rossi, Michael Kelly, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Deirdre O'Connell, Clancy Brown and Michael Zegen also star.

The series comes from Reeves' 6th & Idaho Productions and Dylan Clark Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television and DC Studios, with Reeves, Farrell, LeFranc, Clark, Bill Carraro and Daniel Pipski serving as executive producers. LeFranc is showrunner and Craig Zobel directs the first three episodes.

Farrell zei in maart, toen hij net klaar was, dat de serie "echt duister", "zwaar" en "ongelooflijk gewelddadig" is.

Meanwhile, Dune: Prophecy was ordered five years ago and is expected later this year.

Dune: Prophecy (also known as Dune: The Sisterhood) comes from the Dune expanded universe created by author Frank Herbert and is set 10,000 years before the ascension of Paul Atreides. It is inspired by the novel Sisterhood of Dune, written by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson. It follows two Harkonnen sisters as they battle forces that threaten the future of humanity and found the legendary sect that will become known as the Bene Gesserit.

The series, which underwent some major casting, writing and directing changes during a pandemic and strikes, stars Emily Watson, Olivia Williams, Travis Fimmel, Jodhi May, Mark Strong, Sarah-Sofie Boussnina, Josh Heuston, Chloe Lea, Jade Anouka , Faoileann Cunningham, Edward Davis, Aoife Hinds, Chris Mason, Shalom Brune-Franklin, Jihae, Tabu, Charithra Chandran, Jessica Barden, Emma Canning and Yerin Ha in the cast.

Alison Schapker is showrunner and executive producer. Diane Ademu-John, who is among those who left early, co-developed the series and serves as executive producer. Anna Foerster produced and directed several episodes, including the first.

Jordan Goldberg, Mark Tobey, John Cameron, Matthew King, Scott Z. Burns and Jon Spaihts produce with author Brian Herbert and Byron Merritt and Kim Herbert serve as executive producers for the estate of Frank Herbert. Author Kevin J. Anderson is co-producer. Legendary is co-producer.
