Prime Video gives the green light to British comedy-thriller series Dead Hot

Amazon Prime Video has given the go-ahead for a British comedy-thriller series from Nicola Shindler's Quay Street (It's a Sin) and writer Charlotte Coben (Stay Close).
Dead Hot stars Bilal Hasna (Extraordinary) and Vivian Oparah (Class), who recently broke through, as Elliot and Jess, while Penelope Wilton (After Life) and Peter Serafinowicz (The Tick) are also on board. The series will launch on Prime Video in the UK and Ireland next year and will be sold internationally by ITV Studios.

The series is set in contemporary Liverpool, where twenty-somethings Elliot and Jess are best friends bound by a bond of grief over the loss of Peter - Elliot's first and only love and Jess's twin brother. When Elliot meets Will, he begins to think he can put the past behind him, but when Elliot discovers Will has his own dark secrets, just as Jess is approached by someone claiming to be her brother, it sparks a determination for the pair to find out if Elliot is romantically cursed or a target.

Shindler's ITV Studios-backed Quay Street has been raking in commissions since launching by the acclaimed British producer in 2021. The Nolly indie is also making Playdate for Disney+, Harlan Coben's Fool Me Once for Netflix, BBC film Men Up and ITV/BritBox's After the Flood.

Dead Hot writer Charlotte Coben is the daughter of Harlan Coben and co-wrote his Netflix films Stay Close and The Stranger (2020). Shindler called her a "natural" and added, "I can't wait for the world to see the wonderful, crazy world we've created, and to join me on a journey filled with adventure and genuine friendship in equal measure."

Shindler and Coben run the production. Laurie Kirkham (It's a Sin) is producing, with Sam Arbor (Heartstopper) directing the first half and David Sant (Significant Other) directing the second half. Filming has begun in the North West of England.
