Limited series in development about the murder of JonBenét Ramsey

One of America's most famous unsolved murders, the 1996 murder of JonBenét Ramsey, is getting a true crime scripted series.
The project from MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios is about to get the green light. A platform has not yet been determined, but Paramount+ has been mentioned as a possibility.

The series was created and written by Harrison Query (pictured, left) and Tommy Wallach (pictured) who sold it as a pitch to MTVES/101. The duo will produce alongside Richard LaGravenese, who serves as showrunner. David Glasser and James Allen produce for 101 Studios.

The as-yet-untitled project examines the mysterious death and media frenzy surrounding the murder of JonBenét Ramsey, a case that captivated an entire nation and left people with more questions than answers.

The series is expected to explore all possible suspects in detail.

JonBenét Ramsey was six years old when she was reported missing from her home in Boulder, Colorado on December 26, 1996. She was found dead in the basement of the house several hours later, along with a long ransom note. An autopsy determined the cause of death was strangulation and it was ruled a homicide.

Boulder police initially believed that JonBenét's mother, Patsy, had written the ransom note and that the note and the child's body had been staged by her parents in an attempt to cover up the murder. Her brother, who was nine years old at the time of JonBenét's death, was cleared as a suspect in 1999.

In 2013, court documents revealed that a grand jury had recommended charges against the Ramseys in 1999, including hindering prosecution, but the district attorney decided there was insufficient evidence to file charges. The case remains unsolved to this day.
