Paramount+ orders new crime series The Crow Girl

Paramount+ may have canceled a number of international series last month, but British production appears to be continuing as usual.
The streamer has given the green light to The Crow Girl from Buccaneer Media, the producer that saw another series, The Doll Factory, disappear from the platform last month.

The Crow Girl, starring Katherine Kelly (photo, l.), Dougray Scott (photo, m.) and Eve Myles (photo, r.), is based on the novel by Erik Axl Sund and begins with the gruesome discovery of a teenage boy's body discarded in plain sight.

Determined to find the perpetrator, DCI Jeanette Kilburn (Myles) joins forces with psychotherapist Sophia Craven (Kelly) to hunt down the killer, despite opposition from her superiors, including confidante DI Lou Stanley (Scott).

The Crow Girl is the first major television writing assignment for Milly Thomas, who acted in The Crown and Sex Education, among others. “I've been looking forward to diving into this story ever since I got my hands on this strange, twisty tale and to create this series alongside the strong talents of Paramount+ and Buccaneer is truly a joy,” she added.

Last month, Paramount+ cancelled a slate of international original series, including Buccaneer's The Doll Factory, Samantha Morton series The Burning Girls and The Killing Kind, as CEO Bob Bakish shifted its strategy to Hollywood franchises.

However, the company has since announced the thriller Curfew and The Crow Girl.

The Crow Girl is produced by Tony Wood and Richard Tulk-Hart along with Thomas, who adapted the film for the screen. Charles Martin and Rebecca Rycroft direct the series and Andy Mosse is the producer. ITV Studios will distribute the series internationally.
