Forgive and Forget starring Ty Burrell gets pilot order from ABC

ABC is testing a new comedy starring Ty Burrell. Sources revealed that the project was in the works a year ago and the project from Punky Brewster (2021) duo Eugene Garcia-Cross and Robin Shorr is now moving forward.

It is the final pilot order for the Disney network. It was previously revealed that Tim Allen was returning to ABC for a family comedy from Duncanville creators Mike Scully and Julie Thacker Sully. That was the first pilot order of the season for ABC, which is instead focusing on year-round development.



The series, which comes from 20th Television, follows Hank (Burrell, pictured), the regular guest at every party. After an unexpected diagnosis, Hank reconnects with his responsible adult son Ben in hopes of making new memories together.

Garcia-Cross will write with Shorr as showrunner. They will produce alongside Burrell through his Desert Whale Productions.

Burrell is known for his role as Phil Dunphy on ABC's Modern Family and provided his voice for Jack on Fox's adult animated series Duncanville.

Garcia-Cross is co-producer of Disney+'s reboot of The Santa Clauses and previously worked on Punky Brewster (2021) for Peacock and Indebted for NBC. He was a member of the 2018 NBC Writers On The Verge Program.

Forgive and Forget is inspired by his experiences caring for a parent with Alzheimer's and the series hopes to destigmatize a disease that affects millions of people.

Shorr most recently served as co-executive producer of Punky Brewster (2021) and showrunner and executive producer of Disney+'s Diary of a Future President. Shorr also previously worked on Galavant, The Middle and The Carmichael Show.

Burrell launched Desert Whale Productions in 2020 with an overall deal at 20th Television. The company focuses on developing and producing half-hour comedies from emerging and underrepresented voices and previously developed Yours, Mine & Paul with Julia Meltzer at ABC.
