Calabasas by Kim Kardashian, Marlene King and Emma Roberts lands on Netflix

Kim Kardashian's foray into film and TV continues with another high-profile sale.
This new sale hits close to home for the reality star and entrepreneur. After a competitive bidding that lasted all week, sources say Netflix has acquired Calabasas for development, a television series that Kardashian (pictured, left) is producing with her American Horror Story co-star Emma Roberts (pictured, right), Pretty Little Liars- creator I. Marlene King (photo, inset) and Alexandra Milchan.

Insiders say there were two other offers from major buyers and that Netflix made the winning bid at the end of the week.

Calabasas is based on the book If You Lived Here You'd Be Famous By Now by Via Bleidner, with King writing the adaptation and serving as showrunner.

In the vein of The O.C. and Beverly Hills, 90210 follows Calabasas Via, a sixteen-year-old sheltered Catholic schoolgirl from the Midwest whose world is turned upside down when her family moves and she is forced to move into the fast-paced world of Calabasas High where nothing is as it seems or true everyone tries to be someone else. It's a place where dreams come true... but not without complications and sometimes unforeseen consequences.

Kardashian is producing with King and her partner Lauren Wagner through Long Lake Media, Belletrist Productions' for Roberts, Karah Preiss and Matt Matruski and Milchan, who had the rights to her book, through Crescentline.

The project quickly got off the ground after King pitched her idea for the series to Milchan and was brought on as writer/showrunner. WME, which represents Kardashian and King, brought them together with Roberts joining them shortly after. The group began holding meetings and offers followed soon after.

Kardashian and her family have made the town of Calabasas known worldwide, so her involvement has added great value to the package. This is her fourth high-profile project to sell since the strike ended. The previous three were the feature film Fifth Wheel, which also headed to Netflix starring Kardashian, and an untitled thriller for Amazon, as well as another project, a legal drama series for Hulu, a collaboration with American Horror Story co-creator/executive producer Ryan Murphy.

This marks a reunion between Kardashian and Roberts, who recently worked together on American Horror Story: Delicate, part two of which is currently airing on FX. Roberts is also growing her production slate through Belletrist, including the hit series Tell Me Lies on Hulu, which has been renewed for a second season.

The short story collection If You Lived Here You'd Be Famous By Now was published by Flatiron Books in 2021 while Bleidner was still a student at UC Santa Barbara and is her debut as a writer.

In addition to developing and producing Freeform's Pretty Little Liars, King also wrote spin-offs Ravenswood and Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists. She is the executive producer of Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin, which debuts its second season on HBO Max on May 8.

Milchan also has Apple TV+'s Black Bird and The Crowded Room to her credit.
