In the series we follow close friends Mike, Daan, Ivo and Greg, who feel lost in the modern world. The men, each in their own way, find themselves in the middle of a crisis of masculinity and humorously try to preserve what is left of their relationships and careers.
Haantjes was written by Luuk van Bemmelen and Richard Kemper. The series is directed by Anna van der Heide and Anna van Keimpema. Van der Heide previously directed the series Dirty Lines, among others. Van Keimpema made episodes of Spangas and Mother Mafia! Hollands Licht is the production company for the series.
Although Netflix does not announce it as a remake of Machos Alfa, Haantjes is strangely similar to the Spanish comedy series. The synopsis is almost the same, as the Spanish series also revolves around four friends who feel a bit lost in the new world of empowered women.
The series is after "Costa!! de series" the second homegrown Netflix Original in a short time.
