Presented as a gender-bending take on The Lost Boys, or “The Lost Boys meets Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” In Nightfall was published in March 2023 by Penguin Random House/Delacorte Press. The book went viral on X and entered the publishing zeitgeist when no one showed up at the author's book launch in Tempe, Arizona.
The book is set in the quaint town of Nightfall, Oregon, where you shouldn't be afraid of the dark, but of the girls. Theo and her brother Marco threw the biggest party of the year. And were caught. Their punishment? Left Arizona to spend the summer with their grandmother in the rainy town of Nightfall, Oregon (846 souls).
This small town is cute when it's not raining, but their grandma is superstitious and strangely antisocial. When they arrive, she prescribes one house rule: make sure you're home before dark. But Theo and Marco are determined to make the most of their summer and on their first day they meet the enigmatic Minnow and her friends. The beautiful and charismatic girls have a magnetic attraction that Theo and her brother cannot resist. But Minnow and her friends are not what they seem.
And that one line? Theo soon realizes that they should have listened to their grandmother. Because when it gets dark, something pops up in Nightfall. And it has no intention of letting them go.
