Amazon MGM Studios is developing thriller novel The 500 as a television series

Amazon MGM Studios has begun development on The 500, a series adaptation of Matthew Quirk's New York Times bestseller.
The 500 shows how a former con man is plucked from his Harvard law school class to become a partner at Washington's most influential consulting firm. He is soon drawn into a seductive, dangerous web of power and corruption and struggles to find his way out.

Published by Little, Brown and Company in 2014, The 500 is Quirk's debut novel and the first in his Mike Ford series. David Weil and Natalie Williams will produce the series under their overall deal with Amazon MGM Studios.

Quirk is known for thrillers about themes such as espionage, government corruption and covert operations. In 2019, Quirk broke through with The Night Agent, which was adapted into Shawn Ryan's wildly popular Netflix series. The spy thriller starring Gabriel Basso is currently in its second season and became the sixth most-watched series ever within a month of its debut.

Quirk began his career as a journalist at The Atlantic and followed up The 500 with 2014's The Directive. He is also known for his John Hayes series and standalone novels such as Hour of the Assassin, Red Warning and Inside Threat.

Sodroski is in demand these days and recently sold a pitch for a law school thriller to Netflix, with production company 42 on board to produce. He previously wrote the script for Mimi Cave's thriller Holland, Michigan, starring Nicole Kidman, Gael GarcĂa Bernal and Matthew Macfadyen, for Amazon MGM Studios, a title that 42 co-produced with Blossom Films.

Before that, Sodroski wrote and produced two seasons of the crime series Manhunt. The first season, Unabomber, earned him a WGA Award nomination, and the second, Deadly Games, was the most-watched series on Netflix for several weeks when it came from Spectrum, with nearly a billion minutes streamed.
