“Paramount+ today announced that the new six-part documentary MAFIA SPIES, directed by Tom Donahue and produced by CreativeChaos in association with Danny Strong Productions and See It Now Studios, will premiere in the US and Canada on Tuesday, July 16 and on Wednesday, July 17 in the United Kingdom, Australia, Latin America, Brazil, France, Italy, Germany, Switzerland and Austria.
A poster and trailer for the series were also revealed. The series is distributed by Paramount Global Content Distribution.
In MAFIA SPIES, viewers discover real-life spies, gangsters and mistresses as they unravel a hidden conspiracy between the CIA and the Chicago mafia to assassinate Fidel Castro at a critical moment in the Cold War; President Kennedy announced that it was impossible to live with Castro with missiles 90 miles from American soil.
Based on the book Mafia Spies: The Inside Story of the CIA, Gangsters, JFK, and Castro by Thomas Maier, this action-packed and riveting series talks to the main characters - who give their personal accounts of what happened in the United States and Cuba.
Based on newly released footage and first-rate cinematic reconstructions, the series charts a Cold War cat-and-mouse game from Vegas to Miami to Havana, pitting Washington's toughest players against the 20th century's most notorious gangsters century. The series explores the secret connections between the CIA, the Mafia and Sinatra's Rat Pack that still resonate today.
MAFIA SPIES delves into one of America's most remarkable spy conspiracies and features exclusive interviews in the US and Cuba with expert historians and renowned journalists, such as Gerald Posner, Tim Weiner, Geoff Schumacher, Stephen Kinzer, Peter Kornbluh, J. Michael Niotta, Professor Boris Nerey Obregon and Felix Rodriguez. The series also stars Sam Giancana's daughter Antoinette, entertainer Betsy Duncan and actor Robert Davi.
MAFIA SPIES is directed by Tom Donahue, who co-wrote the series with Ron Marasco. Donahue and Ilan Arboleda are the executive producers and co-showrunners and Jessicya Materano is co-executive producer for CreativeChaos vmg.
Danny Strong and Mandy Safavi are the executive producers for Danny Strong Productions.
