Television series based on comic book Proof in development at Fox

Fox is developing a supernatural crime series based on the Image Comics comic Proof.
Created by Alex Grecian and Riley Rossmo, the book reunites two unlikely heroes - disgruntled FBI agent-in-training Ginger Rodriguez and John 'Proof' Prufrock, a jazz-loving Bigfoot - to protect the world from Cryptids: obscure creatures whose existence has yet to be proven.

Although these two start out as a surprising duo, an unlikely friendship, partnership and even a potential romance develop as they work side by side to save the world.

The series adaptation comes from Cory Goodman and Jeremy Lott, who previously sold a supernatural feature film based on IDW graphic novel Lore to Warner Bros. featuring Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson.

It's the pair's first foray into television, having sold several feature films, including Jerry Bruckheimer's Hood to Sony and Neal Moritz's Merry Little Christmas to Paramount+. Goodman wrote the films Priest, The Last Witch Hunter and Underworld: Blood Wars.

The pair are writing the drama, which is produced by Fox Entertainment Studios. Westbrook Studios' Terence Carter and David Boorstein and Aperture Entertainment's Adam Goldworm are co-producing. Grecian is a producer.

It is described as a cross between The X Files and Men In Black. The comic series launched in October 2007 and ran for 33 issues until 2010.

Aperture Entertainment optioned the comic and developed the series before teaming up with Westbrook. The company is also producing an adaptation of Grady Hendrix's Final Girl Support Group, which is in the works at HBO Max with Andy Muschietti directing and Charlize Theron producing.

The company is also developing Hannibal at Netflix starring Denzel Washington, Thaw at New Line with Lee Cronin directing and The Oberlin Incident, written by Goodman, at Paramount. Westbrook Studios is behind series like Peacock's Bel-Air and Netflix's Cobra Kai on the television side.

The development project comes as Fox gears up for its next season, which sees the launch of three new dramas: Rescue: HI-Surf, Murder in a Small Town and Doc. It also has Matt Nix's State Patrol (working title), which is gearing up for a pick-up.

Earlier this month, Fox CEO Rob Wade laid out his strategy, which includes producing more series through the Fox Entertainment Studios division and seeking out more "sexy rebels."
