CBS is developing a Van Helsing series

Van Helsing becomes a crime fighter in a new series in development at CBS.
Jonathan Lee, the writer behind upcoming Netflix and BBC drama series Lockerbie, is writing the series of the same name that is in development at the Paramount-owned channel.

It is believed that the series ended up at CBS after a hotly contested auction.

Elementary creator Rob Doherty (pictured) is executive producing the project alongside Carl Beverly and Sarah Timberman under their deal with Lionsgate Television, which is the studio.

The series is a contemporary take on the monster hunter Dr. Abraham Van Helsing, who uses his unique investigative mind to solve New York City's most harrowing cases together with his ex, ruthless FBI Special Agent Mina Harker.

Van Helsing is the latest procedural project in the works at CBS, which revealed earlier this week that they were developing an American adaptation of the German detective drama series Einstein (2017).

Lee is the author of books such as The Great Mistake. In addition to Lockerbie, he is working on a series about a robbery in Las Vegas for FX together with Sterlin Harjo, known for his work on FX's Reservation Dogs, and with Eric Roth he is working on adapting his book High Dive for the big screen.

It is the latest adaptation of Van Helsing into a television series. Syfy aired a fantasy horror series based on Bram Stoker's creation, known as vampire slayer, monster hunter and arch-enemy of Dracula, for five seasons, starring Kelly Overton.

Eastsiders creator Kit Williamson is developing a series with AGC Television based on Jason Henderson's Alex Van Helsing trilogy, featuring a fourteen-year-old descendant.

There was also the 2004 action-horror film starring Hugh Jackman as Van Helsing and Kate Beckinsale as Anna Valerious, directed by Stephen Sommers.
