Prime Video Orders Every Year After Based on Carley Fortune Novel

Prime Video has given a series order to Every Year After, based on Carley Fortune’s best-selling novel Every Summer After.
Every Year After is described as a fun, engaging, romantic tale that asks the question: What if your first love was actually your soulmate? Leila Gerstein, creator of Hart of Dixie and Saint X, will write and serve as showrunner.

This is the latest expansion into the contemporary romance genre where Prime Video has found success with popular television series and films such as The Summer I Turned Pretty and The Idea of You, both also based on popular books.

“We’re thrilled to bring the beautiful story of Every Summer After to our global Prime Video customers as Every Year After,” said Vernon Sanders, Head of Television, Amazon MGM Studios. “Carley Fortune’s bestselling book is the perfect blend of heartfelt nostalgia and poignant romance. With Leila Gerstein’s vision, audiences will explore this remarkable story in a way that captures its essence and emotional depth.”

Every Summer After, which spent 14 weeks on the New York Times bestseller list, has sold over 1 million copies to date. The book gained popularity via BookTok, with the Every Summer After hashtag receiving over 81.4M views on TikTok.

In addition to Every Summer After, Fortune is also the author of This Summer Will Be Different and Meet Me at the Lake. The three books have sold over 2 million copies to date and have been translated into 30 languages in over 50 countries. She is currently working on her fourth book.

“Every Summer After holds a very special place in my heart and in the hearts of readers around the world who feel deeply connected to Sam and Percy’s love story,” Fortune said. “I’m thrilled to partner with Amazon to take their journey even further — beyond the pages of the book, onto the screen, and into the hearts of audiences around the world.”

In addition to creating Hart of Dixie and Saint X, Gerstein shared an Emmy and Golden Globe for her work on the Hulu/MGM Television series The Handmaid’s Tale.
