Prime Video Develops Eric Stonestreet Comedy Series Home Team

In a competitive situation, Prime Video has acquired Home Team, a comedy series starring Eric Stonestreet.
The project hails from Austin Winsberg’s Zihuatanejo Productions, Peyton Manning’s Omaha Productions, The Tannenbaum Company, Lionsgate Television — home to The Tannenbaum Co. and Zihuatanejo — and Amazon MGM Studios.

Home Team is written by Jason Belleville from a story by him and Winsberg, and is described as a comedy with a big heart and a love letter to father-son relationships.

It follows Scott Hansen (Stonestreet, pictured) who is now stuck as he moves his father into a nursing home, begins to get his life back on track in a new workplace and begins to learn how to finally live in the moment with people who have far fewer moments left.

Stonestreet and Belleville, who serve as showrunner, are producing with Manning, Jamie Horowitz and Ben Brown through Omaha Productions; Eric Tannenbaum, Kim Tannenbaum and Jason Wang through The Tannenbaum Company; and Steven Kavovit through Thruline Entertainment.

Home Team is influenced by Stonestreet and Manning’s strong relationships with their fathers and features a sports theme via Scott Hansen’s high school history. The duo finally reunites after Manning made a cameo on the Emmy-winning Modern Family in 2017 but didn’t have any scenes with Stonestreet, a big-time Kansas City Chiefs fan who jokingly complained at the time that he couldn’t punch Manning, a star player for rival teams during his American football career, in the stomach.

Stonestreet starred in Modern Family as Cameron Tucker, winning two Emmy Awards for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series and a host of accolades for his role. He also played Magnus Antas (aka the crazy Santa) in season two of The Santa Clauses and appeared in American Auto.

This is the latest collaboration between The Tannenbaum Co. and Winsberg via Lionsgate TV. It follows Apple TV+’s bilingual comedy series Acapulco . Acapulco, now in its third season, was created and executive produced by Winsberg, as were NBC’s Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist and the holiday film Zoey’s Extraordinary Christmas, which he also created, produced and showran. Winsberg recently produced and co-wrote the Disney+ film Secret Society of Second-Born Royals .

Belleville served as co-executive producer on Acapulco and another Tannenbaum Co./Lionsgate comedy series, ABC’s Home Economics. He is currently co-executive producer of the upcoming Denis Leary series Going Dutch.
