Pacific Rim Origin Story Series in Development at Legendary

Pacific Rim Origin Story Series in Development at Legendary

After giving Dune a prequel series with Dune: Prophecy for HBO Max, Legendary Entertainment is looking to do the same with another film title, Pacific Rim.
An origin story for the Pacific Rim film franchise is in the works at the indie studio led by Eric Heisserer (Shadow and Bone). It’s part of a first-look deal that Heisserer and Chronology, his recently launched production company with Carmen Lewis, have signed with Legendary to work on IP and related projects.

Eric is a multitalented, prolific creator whose track record of critical and commercial successes speaks for itself,” said Jason Clodfelter, President of Legendary Television. “We are thrilled to launch our partnership with Eric, Chronology, and Carmen, with a new entry in the epic, globally popular Pacific Rim universe.”

In the Pacific Rim universe, humanity fights monsters by creating them. Faced with oblivion, humanity builds Jaegers—massive, mechanized warriors piloted by our bravest and smartest people from around the world—to defend against an invasion of colossal transdimensional creatures known as Kaiju.

Pacific Rim launched in 2013 with Guillermo del Toro's feature film of the same name and has expanded into other media, including television with the Netflix animated series Pacific Rim: The Black.

Heisserer was most recently showrunner, executive producer and writer of Shadow and Bone, which ran for two seasons on Netflix. He previously wrote Sandra Bullock's critically acclaimed Bird Box and Denis Villeneuve's Oscar-nominated and WGA Award-winning sci-fi thriller Arrival.
