FX orders Ryan Murphy drama series The Beauty

Cable channel FX is home to yet another new series from Ryan Murphy. The Disney network has picked up a drama titled The Beauty from Murphy's eponymous production company and 20th Television, where Murphy is based. The series, starring Evan Peters, Ashton Kutcher, Anthony Ramos and Jeremy Pope, is based on the 2016 title of the same name from Image Comics. Murphy (pictured) and Matthew Hodgson (American Sports Story, 9-1-1) are credited as co-creators.



As usual with Murphy productions, details about the story are being kept quiet. The graphic novel on which the series is based, by Jeremy Haun and Jason A. Hurley, is set in a world where a sexually transmitted disease is spreading across the world - mainly because it makes people more physically attractive. However, two detectives stumble upon a conspiracy surrounding the origins of the disease.

Heading into production this fall, The Beauty follows a string of recent series debuts for Murphy: FX series American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez and Grotesquerie, Netflix's Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story and ABC's Doctor Odyssey are all in the premiered last two weeks.

The new series marks a new collaboration between Murphy and Peters, who have worked together on American Horror Story, Pose and the Jeffrey Dahmer-directed first season of Monster; Peters earned an Emmy nomination for playing Dahmer in the latter.

Kutcher's recent roles include Netflix's rom-com Your Place or Mine, the feature film Vengeance and a guest role on That '90s Show.

Ramos has just finished work on Twisters and Disney+'s Marvel series Ironheart due out in 2025.

Pope received an Emmy nomination for Murphy's limited series Hollywood (2020) for Netflix and also starred in Pose and the feature film The Inspection, for which he received a Golden Globe nomination.

Murphy and Hodgson produce The Beauty along with Peters, Ramos, Pope, Alexis Martin Woodall, Eric Kovtun, Scott Robertson, Nissa Diederich and Eric Gitter.
