Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon series in the works at Prime Video

Prime Video is developing Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, based on the Crane-Iron Pentalogy book series by Wang Dulu.
The drama hails from writer/executive producer Jason Ning (Lucifer, The Brothers Sun), executive producer Ronald D. Moore (pictured, Outlander, For All Mankind) and Sony Pictures Television, both under an umbrella deal.

Set amid breathtaking landscapes and spectacular action, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon follows Shu Lien and Mu Bai, two polar opposites, as they wrestle between forbidden love and the pull of modernity—caught between preserving their way of life or embracing a future together.

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon was adapted by Ang Lee into his Oscar-winning film, which incorporates elements from other books in the Crane-Iron series. The film is part of Sony’s library, having been produced and distributed by the studio.

The idea for the Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon television series came about a few years ago when Sony reacquired the rights to the books through a first-look deal with Vertigo and hired Ning to direct the adaptation as part of an overall deal. Moore came on board last year after returning to Sony TV with a new overall deal. It's one of two major television series projects based on Sony-owned titles that the Battlestar Galactica creator has worked on since returning to the studio, along with God of War, which is also on the way to Prime Video.

Wang DuLu's five Crane-Iron Pentalogy novels, published between 1938 and 1944, chronicle the struggles of four generations of youxia, a type of the ancient Chinese warrior folk hero.
