CBS continues with drama series Einstein and comedy series DMV

CBS has made a decision on the two separate pilot episodes Einstein and DMV. Comedy series DMV, starring Colin from Accounts actress Harriet Dyer (pictured) and from creator Dana Klein and Kapital Entertainment; and drama Einstein, starring Criminal Minds actor Matthew Gray Gubler, have been ordered to series by CBS. Einstein hails from Monk duo Andy Breckman and Randy Zisk.



DMV’s order breaks a four-way tie for the sole remaining comedy slot on CBS’ 2025-26 schedule. Three pilots, the single-camera DMV, the multi-camera comedy Zarna, an as-yet-untitled spinoff of The Neighborhood and Poppa’s House were all vying for the one spot. It came down to DMV, Zarna and Poppa’s House. DMV, which tested and screened well, had a slight lead and will now join CBS’ sole single-camera comedy Ghosts, which was recently renewed for two seasons. The other pilots will not move forward, while Poppa’s House has been canceled.


Einstein, which secured Criminal Minds actor Gubler, passed the tests and received an enthusiastic response from CBS. Monk creator Breckman’s adaptation of the German format hit CBS’ soft spot for procedural drama with humor and a popular CBS actor in the lead role.

Both DMV and Einstein hail from CBS Studios. Of the remaining comedy contenders, Zarna, starring comedian Zarna Garg and executive produced by Mindy Kaling, was the only outside production, hailing from Warner Bros. Television.

CBS’s 2025-26 season schedule will be announced on May 7.

Based on the short story by award-winning author Katherine Heiny, DMV is a comedy series set in the place everyone dreads the most: the DMV. Our quirky and lovable characters earn minimum wage and do thankless jobs that irritate customers before they even walk through the door. Luckily, they have each other. Einstein is about the brilliant but aimless great-grandson of Albert Einstein who spends his days as a comfortable tenured professor until his bad behavior gets him in trouble with the law and he’s forced to help a local detective solve her most puzzling cases.
