This adaptation follows Creature Commandos, the first animated series under James Gunn’s DC reign, season two of which is currently in production for HBO Max.

Mister Miracle centers on Scott Free, a world-class superstar escape artist known as Mister Miracle. According to the official description, he is “the greatest escape artist who ever lived – no prison can hold him, no trap can stop him.” But the real mystery revolves around the ultimate escape: “Can he escape death itself?”
The series begins at a point where “something has gone terribly wrong with the perfect life that Scott and his feisty wife Big Barda have built for themselves on Earth.” With that, the series promises not only action and spectacle, but also a psychological and emotional undertone, something that Tom King is known for as a writer.
King is also involved in HBO’s upcoming Lanterns series, underscoring his growing influence within the new DC universe.
The announcement came during the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, where a surprising number of major franchises are presenting animated projects this year. Stranger Things: Tales From ’85 was previously revealed, as was an animated Doctor Who (2024) series for children.
With a deep story, strong creative direction and the support of both Warner Bros. Animation and DC Studios, Mister Miracle looks to be a promising addition to the new DC multiverse – this time in animated form.
