Netflix is bolstering its investment in Korean content with a live-action adaptation of Solo Leveling, the immensely popular web novel, web toon, and recently anime hit. Sung Jin-woo's lead role in Solo Leveling is played by Byeon Woo-seok (Lovely Runner), one of Korea's fastest-rising stars. Fans had long fan-cast Byeon as Jin-woo, thanks to his striking visuals, which many described as looking "straight out of a manhwa."

Solo Leveling tells the story of Sung Jin-woo, the weakest hunter in a world filled with portals ("Gates") to dangerous dimensions. After a near-fatal mission, he discovers a mysterious power that allows him to infinitely strengthen himself. As he grows stronger, so does the threat of monsters that threaten to wipe out humanity.
Directed by Lee Hae-jun and Kim Byung-seo (Ashfall, Castaway on the Moon), the series features a top-tier visual effects team to bring the large-scale action sequences to life.
With this production, Netflix is building on the global success of Korean titles like Squid Game and attempting to translate the enormous popularity of Korean webtoons into prestigious live-action series for an international audience.
