Netflix's limited series Senna shifts up a gear with first teaser

Netflix's biographical F1 series about Ayrton Senna has been kicked into high gear with a first teaser.
The series, which premieres later this year, stars Gabriel Leone (pictured below) as the eponymous driver. The trailer recreates his historic victory at the 1991 Brazilian Grand Prix at Interlagos, after a challenging race in which he was mostly stuck in sixth gear and also the first time he won in his hometown of Sao Paulo.



The teaser also shows possible thoughts and experiences, interspersed with footage from the race, that took Senna to where he had gotten in his career before he tragically died in 1994.

The six-part series begins with the genesis of the three-time F1 champion's motorsport career, when he moves to England to compete in Formula Ford, and continues until his tragic accident in Imola, Italy, during the San Marino Grand Prix .

Senna also stars Kaya Scodelario, whose mother is Brazilian, fresh off her role in Netflix's The Gentlemen.

Starring Vicente Amorim as showrunner and co-director, along with Julia Rezende, Senna is produced by Fabiano Gullane and Caio Gullane with the support of Senna Brands and the driver's family.

Also starring Alice Wegmann as Ayrton's first wife Lilian Vasconcelos, Camila Márdila as his sister Vivianne Senna, Christian Malheiros as his friend Maurinho, Gabriel Louchard as Galvão Bueno, Hugo Bonemer as Nelson Piquet, Julia Foti as Adriane Galisteu, Marco Ricca as his father 'Maurão Senna, Nicolas Cruz as his brother Leonardo Senna, Rodrigo Veloso as brother-in-law Flavio and Susana Ribeiro as his mother Zaza Senna, plus an international cast with Matt Mella, Arnaud Viard, Patrick Kennedy, Joe Hurst, Johannes Heinrichs, Keisuke Hoashi, Leon Ockenden , Richard Clothier, Steven Mackintosh and Tom Mannion co-star.

The main screenwriter is Gustavo Bragança and the writers are Álvaro Campos, Gustavo Bragança, Rafael Spínola, Thais Falcão and Álvaro Mamute. Amorim directs together with Júlia Rezende.

A documentary by Asif Kapadia about Senna won two BAFTAs in 2011.
