Cheers actress Kirstie Alley (71) passed away

The actress Kirstie Alley passed away yesterday, the 5th of December 2022, after a brief struggle with cancer at the age of 71. The passing of the actress was confirmed by her children on Monday evening: "As iconic as she was on screen, she was an even more amazing mother and grandmother."

Alley's children, True and Lillie Parker, have revealed that the actress passed due to cancer. In a statement, True and Lillie have also confirmed that Alley passed away on Monday.

"We are sad to inform you that our incredible, fierce and loving mother has passed away after a battle with cancer, only recently discovered," they said in a statement.

"She was surrounded by her closest family and fought with great strength, leaving us with a certainty of her never-ending joy of living and whatever adventures lie ahead.", they continued.



Kirstie Alley (photo) first rose to fame due to her part in the series North and South (1985), which focused on the American civil war. Alley had her breakthrough role with Cheers in 1987. She portrayed the lead character, Rebecca Howe. She earned a Golden Globe for best actress and an Emmy Award for excellent lead actress for her role in the comedy series in 1991. In 1994, she won her second Emmy Award for the portrayal of Sally Goodson in the television movie David's Mother.

Alley also starred in television series such as Veronica's Closet (1997-2000), Fat Actress (2005), Kirstie (2013-2014), and Scream Queens (2015-2016). On the big screen, she is known for her roles in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (1982), Look Who's Talking (1989), and It Takes Two (1995).

In 2011-2012, Alley took part in the twelfth season of the US version of Dancing with the Stars, where she reached second place. In the last year, she could still be seen (and heard) in the American version of The Masked Singer.
