Reboot of The X Files in development with Ryan Coogler at the helm

A new version of The X Files is on the horizon from Ryan Coogler, according to The X Files creator Chris Carter.
“I just spoke to a young man, Ryan Coogler, who is going to remount ‘The X-Files’ with a diverse cast,” Carter said in an interview earlier this week while visiting the CBC radio show “On the Coast with Gloria Macarenko.

20th Television declined to comment. Deadline has contacted Coogler's representatives.

The X Files premiered in 1993 starring David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson as FBI Special Agents Mulder and Scully, respectively. For eleven seasons, the duo investigated cases related to the paranormal. Carter said the series would be completely different today because "we're steeped in conspiracies these days."

Coogler's (pictured) production banner Proximity Media has a five-year exclusive deal with Disney Television, Deadline reported exclusively in 2021. Coogler recently released the sequel to Marvel hit Black Panther, titled Wakanda Forever, which he wrote and directed. The film received recognition in the award circuit, including five Oscar nominations. He will also direct episodes of Marvel and Disney+'s as-yet-untitled Wakanda series and serve as an executive producer for another upcoming Marvel series, Ironheart.
