Outlander - Season 7 (first part)

The first part of the penultimate season of Outlander. The second part of this seventh season will not be broadcast until 2024.

This part follows a shortened season six, which consisted of eight episodes. Personally, I found this season a bit boring as it was mainly about the impending revolution. Jamie and Claire live in their self-built house in Fraser's Ridge. And it ended with Claire heading to prison.

The seventh season picks up the pace immediately. Jamie and Ian try to save Claire who is about to be convicted of the murder of Malva Christie. The two are interrupted in their mission by the American Revolution in which the Americans rebel against the British rulers. And it is not too gentle.

The second episode is experienced as intense by many fans. The truth surrounding Malva's murder finally emerges and the Frasers face a great loss.

After that, the American Revolution plays a major role in the story. This season is based on the book An Echo in Time. The biggest villain of them all isn't a person this time; it is the senselessness and chaos of war. Claire and Jamie are no strangers to this, but they now have extended family to worry about.

In this part, Jamie Fraser knows things about the American Rebellion. The Americans will win, although it doesn't look like that yet in 1778. Being in the winning camp does not mean he will make it out alive. Jamie would rather die than meet his son on the battlefield. Claire knows the price the Americans will pay for victory will be high and she is determined to make sure Jamie's life isn't one of them.

Lots of fighting

Yes, it's a revolution, so fight scenes are part of it. As far as I can tell, it looks pretty authentic. But they're not my favorite scenes.

What is a nice twist is the story of Brianna and Roger. In this season they go back to the future. What's strange is that this story jumps a few years. The children are older and Roger and Brianna are building a life in Scotland. Without spoiling, you already see an opening where you know that in the next part of the season or only in the final season, these two stories will come together again.

The ratings for Outlander's seasons decrease from 9.1 to 7.5. I personally thought this season was better than the previous one and I hope that the last season and a half will be better again. It's not all bad though. It's still fun to watch the main characters. On to part two of season seven!
